Workbench Tutorials - Tutorial Parts Coming... 29-01-2007

Please Note: This is not an official Line 6 trick and not tested fully on different machines, tyoes of gear and/or MIDI interfaces. However it can help most of you. So no garantees, just a helpfull hint.

If you start two Line 6 USB based applications together your computer shows you a message that you should close the already running Line 6 application. So if you wanna use your PODxt hardware, the Guitarport application and Workbench (USB version) together, at the same time, you running into this problem.

To avoid this problem here's a Vettaville.nl Tweak Trick that enables you to use patches from the PODxt hardware and Guitarport software at the same time while adjusting your Variax guitar with Workbench.

This means that you're you can hear and tweak and hear your patches with the PODxt (Pro) hardware and alter and hear your Variax patches in Workbench at the same time. Meaning you'll hear the interaction of both products and the overall tone it provides. Here's how..

1. Connect your PODxt (Pro) and switch it on.
2. Start the Guitarport software and select the preset that you wanna use with Workbench.
3. Start your Windows Taskmanager. You can find it by pressing your start button in windows, select run and fill in taskmgr in the opened screen and activate by hitting the return button. There's also a shorcut to get there; press CTRL - ALT and Delete buttons at the same time and only once in Windows XP. (If you press them twice your computer will shut down!) You'll see the Taskmanager pop up. Now select the processes TAB and select GuitarPort.exe. It'll highlight in a blue colour. Click on the button in the lower right corner of the taskmanager window to end the proces.
4. Power and connect your Variax with the Workbench USB connector and connect your 1/4 out plug into your PODxt (Pro).
5. Now start the Workbench software using the Workbench USB version on your computer.
6. Voila, now you can hear your selected Guitarport preset and alter your Variax at the same time.
7. To alter the sounds of your PODxt you need to physically turn the knobs and press the buttons on your PODxt (Pro). You can't use Line 6 Edit for it.

Darran Moore has made a new guitarmodels chart that you can print out for your wall. Here's what he says about it. "I have knocked together a wallchart I have put up in my study that gives images and detail of the factory preset guitars modeled on the Variax 600 I own.

I have posted it as it I hope it may be of use to some of you guys. Being a newbie to a most things guitars it has helped me visualize and thus become familiar with the instruments selected and saved me continuously thumbing through the Variax handbook.

The models aren't all exact images, they are the best I could find when searching Internet for images of the various models and near enough I feel, for me anyway!!! "

Gearbox - Gearbox Beta for Vista Info... 27-01-2007

We announced that there will be a public beta release of GearBox for Vista (which includes drivers) soon and that we would keep you informed... . Well, here's more info already.

At the Winter NAMM trade show last week, Line 6 announced that RTAS compatibility would be added to the GearBox Plug-in. This will come in the form of "GearBox 3.1" a free downloadable update which we expect to release within the next two weeks. This update includes a bit more than just RTAS compatibility for Plug-in customers - here are the highlights:

1. RTAS compatibility is added to the GearBox Plug-in. Existing GearBox Plug-in owners will be able to use the plug-in with ProTools once they have installed GearBox 3.1.


2. Public Beta for Vista compatibility: Not every provider of recording solutions is equally prepared for the Windows Vista OS release, so as a first step toward full Vista support, we have made sure that our application, drivers and plug-in are installable and operate as expected under Vista (32 bit version only) . However, we are not yet able to promise a specific date for official Vista support. We'll post some info on specific known issues once the release is available.

We'll refine Vista-specific behavior in future development, but want to get your feedback on how this first stage is working for you via our new Support Community - the central point of information exchange for users who are making the Vista jump. Please help us to craft better support for our products with your questions and observations.


3.The GearBox Plug-in add-on for existing hardware will include the 6 mic preamps and 5 bass amps/cabs found in the "Silver Bundle" for all users when running the Plug-in version of GearBox. Customers who have already purchased the GearBox Plug-in add-on will automatically get the new models once they install the GearBox 3.1 update.

4. Several bugs from GearBox 3.0 have been fixed - details will accompany the release.

Patches - Bundle Barn - KC's POD xt Bundle... 10-01-2007

KC Koch made some patches to share with his PODxt (SW 2.14) and Variax. All patches are optimized for use with the Roland KC-300 full range Keyboard amp. So this is definitly a different bundle.

He also included the Variax Bundle as a seperate download but used in conjuction with the PODxt Bundle. Feel free to check out his site for more info.

Now ready for download from Line 6 but what's different in this new version? Well here's some highlights and the complete LowDown...

- Gearbox now available as a plug-in. Supports Mac AU and Windows VST Plug-in formats, as well as Mac and Windows RTAS
- Expanded Line 6 hardware support. Adds supprt for Toneport DI and KB37 deveices to existing hardware support for PODxt, PODxt Pro, PODxt Live, Guitarport and UX1/2
- Pre and Post record sends lets you send pre or post amps and effects to your recording software so you can commit your tracks with the plu-in at a later time.
- MIDI Remote Control Flexibility, supported Line 6 Hardware and add-ons

Gearbox - Visual Connectivity... 07-01-2007

Here's a Gearbox Visual that'll give you a graphical representasion of what the Gearbox softwareprogram connects to and on what gear it's been used. It explains a lot of questions that arise for people unfimiliar with Gearbox.

Gearbox - Gearbox V. 3.10 available... 06-01-2007

Here it is and earlier then announced. The new Gearbox V 3.10. It's available for download now. We said we would keep you informed... Well, here's more info..

This single installer includes a complete software package for GuitarPort, TonePort and PODxt devices - including the GearBox application, device drivers for all supported devices, and the Line 6 Monkey intelligent updater. Release notes, step-by-step instructions for installation and detailed setup info for use with many recording applications is provided in the GearBox online help section of the Line 6 web site.

Windows Vista support is provided as a Public Beta, with discussion of issues to be found in the Line 6 Support Community.
This is the latest GearBox version available and includes support for Plug-in functionality. For owners of eligible Line 6 hardware [other than TonePort DI Silver or Gold Plug-in Bundle], plug-in processing requires the purchase and activation of a license from Line 6 Webstore
