Jake Paland - InVettagation - Part 1... 12-03-2006
For introduction purposes;
Thanks go out to Jake Paland, Line 6 and Hans Ligtenberg
Hi Jake, can you tell us how did you got involved with Line 6?
They were really cool and invited me down to meet some of the people, kept my bio and a compilation cd of artists I had played for. A couple of weeks later they called me up and said that they'd like to endorse me but were also wondering if I might be available to play at their
New inventions are almost done on a weekly basis. Just look at a company like Steinberg, inventing vst instruments ! Incredible to have a perfect emulation of an OSCar on your laptop but in the guitar market all you ever get is the 100th new edition of a Strat. It seemed that for years guitar/amp companies tried to reinvent the wheel until Line6 came along and really invented something new and exciting. If someone would have told me, or you Vinny (laughing), ten years ago that there'll be a digital guitar that models 28 classics and changes tuning when pressing a button or an amp that includes emulations of 74 different amps and cabs...I would not have believed it! I also did a demo for them with Variax and PODxt Live, here's a part of it.
I've seen you play on different occasions Jake, but why those Synth Pop through modern Electronica to ambient Sci-Fi guitar sounds? What is it that turns you to this kinda music?
Especially with people like Bowie the link between the two extremes is very obvious since he used players like Vaughan and Fripp and on the other hand synths guys like Brian Eno. I've always been more interested in the futuristic side of sounds, no matter if it comes from a synth or a guitar. For me it's this 'how did he do THAT sound ?' that makes music more interesting and not the amount of notes that are being played. Actually I find pure guitar music quite one dimensional whereas sounds just add more texture and depth. Maybe comparable to movies against theater where I would always choose the movies (laughing). Maybe I should have become a synth player but guitar just felt more right to me (laughing again). Of course you go through all different kinds of tastes in your carrear but at some point you always go back to your roots and just make them your own. Synth music is just a huge part of what I grew up with. more info Source: Vinny / vettaville.nl | ||
Jake Paland - InVettagation - Part 2... 12-03-2006

The D.O.'s are perfect to run through a full range speaker system and at least I know how it sounds when it goes into the desk and don't have to worry about tripping over the mic's, moving them accidently and so on. The other main reason is that the quieter the sound onstage the more the mixer can actually do without having to fight instrument volumes bleeding off the stage. It's just a very logic thing I learned over the years.
Betatesting, what are you doing and how much time does it involve?
I know your infamous for your 'shooting' sounds, and have seen you perform it many times, any chance you've wanna share those secrets on how to do it? Aah, Vinny you old devil, you ain't gonna trick me into it. But as a special favour I've got a video of a demo from last years Frankfurter Messe, that was recorded live, just with a videocamera by a friend of mine. It's not plugged into to the board so their are different noises in there. You can have that one. It concentrates on what I use and when and not on the things I do on my guitar, allthough you can see that aswell. So if you watch it closely enough maybe you'll get a trick or two from it. I'm using a PODxt Live a Variax and a Line 6 Stompbox Delay Modeler. It's quite a large file so if people are going to download it they'd better rightclick and save, but hey it sure is different. See ya, Vinny. Thanks for dropping by.
