Documents - Workbench - Personalized Variax Chart... 27-05-2005

The new workbench and it's abillity to create your own personalized guitarmodels is out. A great new program that brings you your own customshop with just some clicks, drag and drop on your desktop. When you have created your own models and have stored them in your Variax guitar it could help to have an overview of what you've created.

Here are two solutions to create your own personalized 'workbenched' Variax chart. Jay Pierstorff created a .pdf file to give you the oppertunity to write down your settings for that reference. Andy Z from the Institute of Noise forum announced it on his forum. At the links beneath you can download two documents. Nr. 1 is Jay's .pdf file that you can fill out with your pen.

Nr. 2 is inspired by his work, it's a 'blank' template word document that you can fill with words or pictures and save it for future reference or adjustments. The pictures aren't included but you can find them (copy them from the Vettaville website if you like). Personalize your file with some adjustments..

Edit, PODxt series and Workbench working at the same time - part 1... 13-05-2005

Please Note: This is not an official Line 6 trick and not tested fully on different machines, tyoes of gear and/or MIDI interfaces. However it can help most of you. So no garantees, just a helpfull hint.

Most of us want to use Line 6 Edit and Workbench together so we can tweak the right tone with these new programs. At first there's a message that you can't run them at the same time... Whell that's not exactly true...

When connecting Line 6 Edit and Workbench together you get an error message that you can't run them at the same time. Whell that's true to some extend if you have them both connected through USB because they both try to use the MIDI communications on the USB connection. But there are different ways around that. Here's how.
    • Solution 1 When you have an extra MIDI interface

    1. Unplug the USB cable from your PODxt series (so Live, Pro and normal xt).

    2. Connect your PODxt (Live or Pro) to your PC using a separate MIDI interface. (there are different brands and types around). Start Line 6 Edit, now with no USB connection you'll have to select "Add" from the bottom right corner on the device setup menu in L6 Edit. Now your PODxt (series) will be connected and you'll see it appear in the above screen. Wait until L6 Edit reads your unit's patches.

    3. If you have a PODxt Live read here, if you have another PODxt series read from point 4. Now connect the USB cable to the XTL and start Workbench. Make sure you have your Variax and PODxt Live already set up in Workbench, start Workbench and see how the patches are loaded up. Workbench should now work.

    4. Now connect your Workbench package through USB and start it. Have your Variax powered by the XPS or XPS mini, connect your Variax to the input of your PODxt series and that's it.

    5. Now you have both programs running at the same time and you're in tweak-heaven. The changes made in Workbench are directly altering your tone and your PODxt series can be altered aswell. All on the same computer system and all for free!

Edit, PODxt series and Workbench working at the same time - part 3... 13-05-2005

Whell that's true to some extend if you have them both connected through USB because they both try to use the MIDI communications on the USB connection. But there are different ways around that. Here's how.

    • Solution 3 When you are using only USB connections

    1. Connect your Variax 500/700 to the PODxt Live using the VDI cable, and then connect the XTL's USB port to your computer.

    2. Turn on your PODxt Live, and then start Line 6 Edit, it will start as usual.

    3. Once EDIT starts, it will connect to the PODxt Live thru the USB connection. You will then need to change this connection. At the top of the Tone Locker menu select CONFIGURE. A devices window will appear showing your PODxt Live, you'll see your PODxt connected through USB.

    4. Select the add button. This will allow you to add another device and asks you to select the MIDI In/Out ports the device is connected to. In the drop down menu, you will want to select the Line 6 PODxt Live device for both the MIDI In/Out. Then click add.

    5. Now you will see two PODxt Live icons listed in the devices menu. The new PODxt Live icon (at the very bottom) is the one you just added with MIDI connections. You'll need to select this newly added device (it will turn into a dark grey area) then press ok. Now Line 6 Edit will re-configure itself to edit the PODxt Live via MIDI connection/communication through the USB port.

    6. Now that you've reconfigured EDIT, when you start Workbench, it will be able to connect to your Variax using the USB port connection (that you just freed up) of your PODxt Live.

That's all there is to it. If you did everything correctly, you'll be able to use both EDIT and Workbench at the same time.

    Guitarport - V Stomp for Guitarport... 07-05-2005

There are a lot of Guitarport users out there, one of them is Line 6 Man, a die hard Line 6 fan. He was fiddling around with his gear and discovered a way to have the stompbox feauture in Guitarport change from pre to post. Allthough many would prefer it to be in pre maybe some would like this feauture.

This software has not been developed by Line 6. It was not sanctioned by Line 6. This software is distributed as freeware. There is no guarantee with this software.

Tigerbill came to the rescue and made a small utillity called V Stomp and it changes your stompbox, while using Guitarport from pre to post and back. You can use Guitarport and V stomp at the same time. When V Stomp is activated, set the midi out port to guitarport, and use the big button to set it pre/post. The button is labeled with pre or post for your reference.V Stomp it's freeware so you don't have to pay anything. Thanks to Line 6 Man and Tigerbill
