“JTV-89F is a killer addition to the James Tyler Variax family,” said Max Gutnik, Vice President of Product Management, Line 6. “Many players of heavier styles have been asking for a Variax with a double-locking tremolo, and we heard them—even over all the shredding.”

The precision piezos are housed inside a set of Graph Tech String Saver™ saddles, which are highly resistant to rust, corrosion or perspiration—ideal for sweat-stained stages and beer-soaked venues. In addition, JTV-89F features a classic six-in-line headstock configuration that further enhances tuning stability.

Line 6 released a new update for James Tyler Variax Guitars .
NOTE: Line 6 Monkey 1.53 is required in order to install this firmware update.
The v1.82 firmware update fixes issues related to alternate tuning the new acoustic models in Workbench. It also addresses the community's feedback regarding the natural ambience of the new acoustic models by adding a range at the top of the tone knob that reduces the body ambience and offers a sound that is similar to mic'ing an acoustic guitar at the 12th fret.
To enable the new tone knob range, select "No" at the "Do you want to keep the existing patches on your Tyler Variax" prompt when updating. Users who wish to retain their patches, should save them to a PC or Mac via Variax workbench and restore them following the update.
v1.82 is the latest incarnation of the free v1.8 update that gives all James Tyler(r) Variax(r) modeling guitars five next-generation acoustic guitar models based on* celebrated 6- and 12-string acoustics from Martin(r), Guild(r) and Gibson(r). If you play your JTV with a POD(r)HD500 or POD(r) HD Pro multi-effect processor, the v1.8 update also includes enhanced functionality to make your JTV/POD HD experience even more intuitive and powerful.
Next-generation Models:
*New modeling technology. Our new breakthrough acoustic guitar modeling technology gives the five models breathtaking depth and detail, capturing the subtle nuances of string vibration through the soundboard and the tonewoods of the original modeled guitar body.
*Five updated models. The updated models are based on* the Martin(r) D28, Martin(r) D12-28, Martin(r) 0-18, Guild(r) 12 String, and Gibson(r) J200 acoustic guitars.

Tyler Variax - Feature info at present... 25-03-2010 Comments (0)
The announced James Tyler Variax has some different features from the 'normal' Variax. Here's what the status is at present. . Things may still change but it'll give you an overview of what to expect.
Tyler Variax is designed in three different styles and feels, Stratish HSS config, Paulish 2 HB config and Shreddish2 HB config. Line 6 are building each style in two different places. Doing one with World Music in Korea, as they are amazing builders, for the budget minded guitarist and there will be a US built version of each that are well built. We are having the bodies and necks made in Northern California, painted in So.Cal and put together by a master luthier in Hesperia, CA.
All of the construction is being run past Jim for his approval. When the US version starts rolling to the public, I will be inspecting every one to be sure it is up to Jim's high standards.
There we'll be USA and Korean Tyler Variax. Korean version will be between $1099-$1299
US version will be between $3699-$4499 depending on model. Approx. streetprices and subject to change.
The Tyler Variax will include Workbench, it won't include an XPS, you can buy those from the Line 6 website.
The Tyler Variax models have been redone but are the same types as the normal Variax. Line 6 added about quadruple the DSP so you get full model with alt-tune and because of the added DSP Line 6were able to improve everything about the pitchtracking and speed.
Added an alt-tune knob to all three models. Also because of the added horsepower, we were able to keep the full model going when you use an alternate tuning. You can also Alt-tune the 12 strings now. Plus we put tuning on the knob with 12 tunings available. Plus you can do a tuning on the fly with one simple operation
Straight piezo sound is not available yet but we do have much more stable piezos. L.R. Baggs developed a brand new piezo design to help us with the various Variax I piezo concerns.
The DSP modeling power has quadrupeld, improving both sound soundquality and tracking, models are been redone
Alt-Tune knob is added and completely customizable and you don't have to be hooked up to a computer to do it. It has a mode where you imagine your 12 fret is the nut and you can make up any tuning you can dream. Or use it as a virtual capo.
The current Variax(1) won't get an update since the code doesn't fit in the old chip.
Tyler Variax will work with all VDI equiped product Like POD X3 Live etc. You can send the magnetic pickups to one tone and a model to another tone when doing dual tones with the X3. This way your Tyler Variax will be powered but it won't charge the Lion battery
It is so much better than Variax I. You could call it Variax 1.5.
James Tyler helped design all new bridges for each model to address concerns that you guys have brought to our attention. Also we worked with L.R. Baggs on a brand new piezo design for the same reason.
It features a litium-ion rechargeable battery with a battery meter that will give you 12 hours of play time. Korean ones will ship with one battery. The Amercan versions with 2.
Both the pickups and the vax come out of the 1/4 inch. You press the model encoder to switch between magnetics and model. The 1/4 inch out is either/or magnetic pickups or Variax output. The VDI through a POD X3 with dual tone gives you that ability to blend the two.
Tonewoods and bridge
Tonewoods does matter, to what extent is hard to measure, I couldn't give you the difference on the tonewoods, it is hard to describe. But the metal the bridge is made of is a dramatic factor when it comes to the tone on the Variax Modeling side.
The bridge on new JTVs are custom made and designed by James Tyler. Line 6 wanted their own bridge to deal with some issues that Variax users have had. So during the process of designing the bridge, they had to do listening tests with various metals on various parts of each bridge.
While they were doing the tremolo bridge, they worked with zinc, steel, brass, aluminum in different combination. They did think that main reason was for the sound of the acoustic part of the guitar, i.e. pickups, woods, etc, and then they thought they would just double check to be sure it sounded good on the piezo/variax side as they went along.
Well, guess what? The very combination that was obviously the right combo for the guitars side was dramatically the right combo for the piezo/variax side. It was actually quite a shock. They had a way to play the guitar consistantly and they used the same guitar for each test of combos. They recorded each take so they could a/b after they recorded each different combo they wanted to try.
They didn't need to even really listen back to the recording because when they put the combination together that worked, it was completely obvious.
Line 6 is going to offer many more colors on the USA guitars. Colours will be constrained on the Korean guitars.
On the 69 and 89 you could get a replacement neck with no screw holes and drill your own and replace the neck. So far the neck shape of each has been a hit, so there is a chance you may dig it.
Korean Paulish version will be available in :Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Sunburst, Black and Gold top colours
Although the circuitboards are the same, they are "branded' differently for each model. If you're looking for the best one for a transplant, then the JTV-59 would be your best choice.
1. Kits. There are no plans for kits, if you want to transplant, I suggest the JTV-59 Korean model.
2. The guitar will have pickups. Period.
3. Line 6 is not going to make a cheaper model than the Korean model.
The functionality and sounds and bridge and rechargeable battery is exactly the same on the US and Korean models.
Plugging in a James Tyler Variax into a VDI Like on POD X3 Live, Vetta 2 or PODxt ive will not charge the Lion battery. It will only be charged by the charger
The Korean and USA JTV-69s have locking tuners.
No 13-pin.
On the USA 69 their will be a couple maple neck models.
89 - 1099
69 - 1199
59 - 1299
The Korean guitars come with the current gig bag.
Please note this is what the products features are now and still may change before shipping later this year.

Tyler Variax - Announcing the James Tyler Variax... 24-03-2010 Comments (0)
James Tyler Variax is the first truly advanced guitar of the 21st century, and its story is as deep and colorful as a flame-top finish.
Over the coming months you’ll be privy to production information that most guitar companies would rather keep secret. But we’re not like most guitar companies, and this is no ordinary guitar.
What makes a JTV a JTV? Simple: an innovative design and boutique playing experience courtesy of master luthier James Tyler, and the world’s most advanced guitar modeling technology from the people who invented it, Line 6.
What went into making a JTV? Not so simple: tons of component choices, aesthetic choices, engineering hours, advances in modeling technology, design revisions, late nights, deadlines, arguments, battles with LA traffic, and much, much more.
If you are attending Musikmesse 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany, you may be able to see or even play some of the guitars we are previewing from our pilot run. Team JTV is gearing up to tell its story in obsessive detail.
