Software - Jam2Wav Utillity V.1.... 23-02-2009

Joe Gillespie has made a utillity that converts .Jam files to  .WAV files and is available for free.

A .JAM file written by a Spider Jam or JM4 Looper contains a recording and all its associated settings. It can only be used by one of these devices.

Although you can save all your recordings to an SD card at once, as JAM files, WAV files can only be saved one at a time. Consequently, I have written a simple little application that converts .JAM files to .WAV files either individually or in batches.

All you have to do is drag your JAM file(s) onto the program window and it converts them instantly.

Please note: This software has not been developed by Line 6 and is not sanctioned by Line 6. This software is distributed as freeware. There is no garantee with this software.

Download and unzip the correct file for you computer. There are no fancy installers or anything so just put the program into your Program/Applications folder. Make a shortcut/alias to the Jam2Wav application and put it on your Windows desktop or drag the program icon to your Mac OS X dock.

Note: The Windows version of Jam2Wav is inside a folder along with some necessary .DLL files. Don't move either out of the containing folder. Keep them all together.

By default, the WAV files are saved to the same location as the JAM files but there is an option under the Preferences menu that makes a save dialog box open so that you can save them elsewhere.

Another option in Preferences just checks that when you save a file manually, that you retain the 8.3 character filename format required by the Spider Jam and JM4. This is switched on by default.

New in version 1.01. Added an option for batch saving where you are only asked for the save location for the first file - the rest go in the same place. Fixed the ability to drag and drop the WAV files into other Mac apps like GarageBand.

Thanks go out to Joe Gillespie who has made this utillity availble. He also has a wonderfull blog on the internet. Feel free to visit there and thank him for making Jam2Wav possible.

It has been tested on GearBox 3.70 ONLY.

In addition, and not fully tested, here's a possible workaround for Vista X64 machines. You need to run gbpx.exe as a administrator for it to work. (Thanks Locran).

Software - WaveChunker Tool for IntelliRiffer (for Riffworks)... 28-04-2008

WaveChunker is now available through Vettaville.nl. Riffworks has developed a great userbase, among it's users is a software developer who has made several programs to use with Riffworks. Vettaville.nl hosts these programs for easier worldwide distribution. This one is called WaveChunker and can be used with Riffworks and/or Intelliriffer.

What is WaveChunker ?

Have you ever tried splitting up your audio loop or any wave file into pieces (bars).

You probably are using audio editors and copy paste or auto region/extract regions etc, whell that's a tiring business ain't it.

The WaveCunker tool will split your audio wave file/loop into smaller segments/chunks based on parameters provided by you.

You can use it to split up the solos you recorded or split  backing tracks you created on your keyboard or sequencer. After that you can split the track into chunks, create riffs from those chunks (using intelliriffer) and get them into Riffworks(tm) for jamming...

Software - Guitarport Remote... 15-11-2005

While using the Guitarport application you sometimes would like to be able to switch between different tones and / or use it as a MIDI controller. Patrick Julien made a program to do just that.

This software has not been developed by Line 6. It was not sanctioned by Line 6. This software is distributed as freeware. There is no guarantee with this software.

How to use GP Remote:

  • Open your GuitarPort software
  • Start GP Remote.
(If you see "GuitarPort Preset:" and the name of the preset loaded in your GuitarPort software, communication between apps is fine)

MIDI Controller User:

  • Config the MIDI port used by your controller (Options...MIDI Controller Devices).
Make sure no MIDI controller is configured in GuitarPort (in Edit...Preferences...MIDI).

To map a preset to a trigger (Keyboard or MIDI controller ProgramChange command)

  • Click on Map New Trigger.
  • Press a key or send a ProgramChange or Controller command from your MIDI controller.
  • Select a preset in your GuitarPort software.
  • Click Add.

To modify an existing preset:

  • Right click on it and select Edit Preset or just Double click on it.
  • To change the preset associated with this Trigger, click on the button that shows the name of the current GuitarPort preset. (If you change the Preset in your GuitarPort, the button will update itself)
  • Click modify and the preset will be updated in your Trigger mapping window.

To use a sequencer(like Cubase) to change GuitarPort preset automatically:

  • Install a Virtual MIDI Port software (like LoopBe1, search Virtual MIDI Port on Google).
  • Select this virtual device as a controller in GuitarPort Remote (Options...MIDI Controller Devices).
  • Select the same virtual device in your sequencer as MIDI out device.
  • Send a ProgramChange command (Midi Channel 0 should be fine, Report to your Sequencer docs to do that)

The software is free to download and use for everyone, but be nice and pay respects and pay a visit to his website and read. Patrick thanks for the work and enjoyment for all.

The program itself is a zipped file, that you need to 'unzip' and install, read the readme file, or above here for further instructions.

    Software - V Stomp for Guitarport... 07-05-2005

There are a lot of Guitarport users out there, one of them is Line 6 Man, a die hard Line 6 fan. He was fiddling around with his gear and discovered a way to have the stompbox feauture in Guitarport change from pre to post. Allthough many would prefer it to be in pre maybe some would like this feature. This software has not been developed by Line 6. It was not sanctioned by Line 6. This software is distributed as freeware. There is no guarantee with this software.<

Tigerbill came to the rescue and made a small utillity called V Stomp and it changes your stompbox, while using Guitarport from pre to post and back. You can use Guitarport and V stomp at the same time. When V Stomp is activated, set the midi out port to guitarport, and use the big button to set it pre/post. The button is labeled with pre or post for your reference. V Stomp it's freeware so you don't have to pay anything. Thanks to Line 6 Man and Tigerbill

    Software - VBoard V 3.1 for Vetta II... 28-12-2004

    VBoard 3.1 Overzicht

    Vetta II Patch Editing/SYSEX Send/Save

    Software created by Gary Lee

    gtlee@adelphia.net

    Disclaimer

This software has not been developed by Line6 Corporation. It was not sanctioned by Line6 Corporation. This software is distributed as freeware. There is no guarantee with this software. It has only been tested on one PC with a Midiman interface. You can submit comments and suggestions to gtlee@adelphia.net.

Thanks to several people who are working with VBoard 3.0, some bugs have been uncovered and updated in VBoard 3.1.

    1) The VOX AC-15 amp model is listed as VOX AV-15.

    2) When you are creating a user bank by dragging and dropping patch files into VBoard, the patch number is not incrementing. All patches load into the same location. The work around is to use the arrow key to increment the patch number each time you drop in a new file.

    3) In the post effects schematic window, if you select a new routing style for an effect and the routing pull-down box is selected, when you use the arrow key to look at other patches, the routing type will also be changed. This gives un-predictable results. The work around is to make sure these pull-down boxes are not selected (highlighted) before using the arrow key.

All of these will be fixed in version 3.1. Please feel free to give me more feedback on other bugs you have found.

Several of you have sent me E-mails regarding VBoard 3.0. I have not responded to you because my outgoing E-mail service has been down for 7 days now. I will try to answer some of these questions below.

    1) The bank file size must be 65,554 bytes in size or it will not load into VBoard. If you are having problems with this, please check the file size of the sysex file you have dumped from the Vetta. Some MIDI software utilities may add some extra bytes. I use SendSX and MIDIoX.

    2) The MIDI device selection window will only show devices that are recognized by Windows. If you have a device that is not showing up there, see if it shows up in other programs such as MIDIoX.

Software - Tone Control for Line 6 Edit... 01-11-2004

Mynickwastaken has made this for all Line 6 edit users; Thanks Kris

    What is ToneControl?

ToneControl allows you to locate your Line 6 "tones" in a flexible way by navigating a dynamic tree structure.

Please note that ToneControl is not a tone editor, nor does it store the actual tone file. Do not delete your tones after "adding" them to ToneControl . Also, back up your tones!

    ToneControl Concept and Operation

ToneControl is very easy to use. The idea behind ToneControl came from the fact that the way files are stored on any file system is inherently counterintuitive to the way we look for information. The hierarchy produced by your file system is fine for information that only has one parameter, but as soon as something is "more than one thing", this falls apart. For example, if you have a document describing an object that is blue and round, do you put the document in the "blue stuff" folder or in the "round stuff" folder? You could, of course, make a copy of the document and place it in both folders but that would be quite ineffective.

The solution to this is, and has been for many years, to store the information in databases. The documents are often stored outside the database, but information about the document's contents is stored inside the database. Once inside the database, searches can be made for documents about objects that are "both blue and round".

The problem that still exists in many document management systems is that to search for documents, the user has to type in the query strings, sometimes with convoluted syntaxes.

In ToneControl you don't have to type anything (if you don't want to). The tree view changes dynamically as you add refinements to the "query". You start off from any of the top-level categories "By Author", "By Amp", "By Song", etc. Once you double click on any of these top-level nodes, the database is queried for all tones and displays them grouped together "By Band" (for example). So now you have a list of bands such as Boston, Rush, Eric Johnson or what have you. The node with the name Rush will contain all tones that where made to emulate the guitar sound heard on Rush albums (hopefully). Double clicking on the node will show all these tones. However, maybe you would like to refine the query more, say by showing only sounds designed for single-coil pickup guitars. Just right-click on the Rush node and select "By Pickup" from the Refine pop-up menu. The view now changes to show Rush songs grouped "By Pickup". You can continue to refine the query further until all categories have been used up.

Once a tone has been found (and clicked on), the infrormation about the tone is displayed in the right side pane. Below this pane are two buttons labeled "Load" and "Edit". These buttons allow you to load the tone into your device or edit the tone. Both of these tasks are accomplished via Line 6's very own Line 6 Edit application. If Line 6 Edit is already started, ToneControl will just send commands to it. If it is not started, ToneControl will start it up for you (if you have not elected to disable this feature).

There is just one thing you need to do before you can use this system: you need to add your tones to the database. To do that, click on the "Add Folder" toolbar button or select the Database->Add Folder to Database menu option. Select a folder that contains your tones. Each tone file will be read and information about the tone (NOT the tone file itself) will be extracted and stored in the database. Please note that, depending on the number of tones in the directory and the performance of your computer, this could take a while.

If you prefer, you can also add tones individually. Click on the "Add Tone" toolbar button or choose Database->Add Tone To Database. You can now select one or more files to add to the database.

ToneControl uses a few other products to accomplish its functionality, please see the licenses directory:

    • HSQL Database Engine. All the tone information is stored in this embedded database. HSQL is the continuation of Hypersonic SQL Project . So, in other words, this product uses Hypersonic SQL.
    • The Kunststoff Look&Feel. The "skin" on ToneControl the completely free and beautiful Kunststoff Look&Feel.
    • Fast MD5 Implementation in Java. This set of classes provides a fast implementation of the MD5 hashing algorithm. ToneControl uses this to uniquely identify tone files.
    • Line 6 Edit. Last but definitely not least, it uses the Line 6 Edit application. Special thanks go to "kharmapolice" and the Line 6 Edit dev team for providing the hooks needed by ToneControl to communicate with Line 6 Edit.
    • Online documentation.
    • Tonecontrol website

Software - Tweakwizard - Who is Tigerbill... 15-04-2004

Daniel Lemoine has made the Beta version of the Tweakwizard that we'll adress below, but it's also nice to see a face of the guy who made this new software and was also responsable for the FCB files for the different Line 6 amps and of course the Flextone Tuner Wizard. It's time to give you the face behind the posts and emails. So here he is...

Software - Tweakwizard - What is it?... 15-04-2004

    What is Tweak Wizard ?

TweakWizard is a powerful tool for tones comparison with a Line6 Flextone III. It's purpose is not to be a competitor for Line6Edit, but to complete it with useful features. The main one is the ability to have two tones in memory, and to swap each other for instant comparison. You can also set the Tuner frequency from 430 to 450 Hz.

    You can:

    • Make all deep tone editing from the computer.
    • Compare two different tones -> this allows you to easily manage the Channel volume as both tones get the same volume.
    • Compare a tone with itself, with some variations.
    • Compare the volume difference between full power and volume pedal min position.
    • Copy settings (Tone name,Amp, Cab, Mic,Gate, Comp, EQ, Rev,Delay, Mod) from one tone to another.
    • Reorganize the tones in the different Flex memory locations
    • Adjust the tone volume with a Fletcher-Munson correction
    • Export the tones names and settings in a printable file ( either in a text editor or in a Calc sheet )
    • Save and recall tones as single tones ( .twt) or bundles (.twb) and export the settings in a printable file ( like Flex tones )

The Midi communication is now both ways
. All tweakings on Flex control panel will be reflected in TweakWizard.

    What do you need?

The only thing you'll need is a computer and MIDI inrface with MIDI in & MIDI out cables connected. Of course you're Flextone III and you're ready to use the program.

    Help! Help!

Don't worry, the most answers are in the helpfile that you can get here, if there are additional questions please adress these on the Line 6 Channel messageboard, open a topic with Tweakwizard help. When seen by others or TigerBill they'll come to your aid.

Here's what it looks like (please note this is a downsized screenshot, the actual program has larger dimensions on your desktop)

Software - Tweakwizard - How to Connect... 15-04-2004

nd the operator says; Of course, just follow these guidelines...

    • Midi ports. At first use, you will have to choose your Midi In and Out ports in the Menu. The program will self-detect the flex if it is On. Your Midi ports will then be stored in a .ini file and will be set at next launch.
    • Speed connection. If you have problems ( Flex can't connect, or get not connected during tones loading or saving ), choose a slower speed in the Menu.
The connexion speed is stored in the .ini file too.

    • Refresh. This button allows uploading tones in case of running the program with the Flex Off, or if a communication failure occurs. The communication state is shown in the window, as the Firmware version.
    • Preferences ( customization)

You can here adapt the defaults settings and program look to your taste.

    • Author's name. ( It is not used at this time, but could be in further versions)
    • Default directories. You can choose the default tones folder ( for tones & bundles save) and the default export print folder.
    • Tone1 & Tone2 preferences.
For each tones edited, you can
      -
Choose if the Edit buffer will be loaded or not at startup.
      - Select the default amp model used for creating a new tone from scratch.
      - Customize the colours of the buttons and names for each tone.
    • TONES SETTINGS

Most features are self-documented. All continuous controls are made with sliders. 'PRE' and 'POST' buttons are toggles. All effects can be set On/Off with the square Green or Orange/Grey buttons ( ON = Green or Orange)
'Set' buttons give you access to extra-parameters ( you can test the Wah with the mouse ).

Please Note: All settings are adapted to the Flextone III Firmware version. Exceptions: you will not get the Gain control of the Compressor with the v1.10. You won't get the Volume min. control with the 1.00 version.

    Special features

    • 'Load link'

When lit, choosing an amp model loads that model with default settings ( EQ, Rev, Comp, Gate ). When shut off, amp is loaded without defaults.

    • 'Volume control position'

This is the Volume PRE/POST toggle. At each press, you'll switch the volume control position. The position is lit, next to the Slider which is controlled:
    Drive for PRE
    Channel Volume for POST

    • 'Volume Min' control (v1.10 firmware)

Adjust the Vol min pedal position, and instant test the difference with the "Test button". The small window below shows you if you are in Min or MAX volume. Changing the min pos in Min mode is not allowed (slider disabled ). This is a choice made because if you would be moving the slider in Min mode, when returning to Max mode it'll give you a bad Vol min. setting.

Switching in EQ correction mode allows to change the overall SPL ( Sound Pressure Level = Volume ) of the tone without changing it's tonal perception.

For a complete overview of the Fletcher-Munson effect, see the Vettaville site.
Obviously, as tone perception is subjective and depending on a lot of parameters such as the room and so on, the correction will not be fully automatic. It will give you a first basis setting.

    a) Choose the original estimated SPL of the tone and the knobs correction range

    b) Set the volume of the tone with the 'Channel Volume' slider.
The Bass and Treble sliders will self-move as to keep the same tonal perception for the tone.

You can make some fine corrections though by moving the Bass and Treble sliders then. But keep in mind they would be lost if you tweak the Channel Volume slider after that ( Think to the Delay & Mod knobs behaviour in '2nd function mode ' )
To make those fine tunes, the best is to set the EQ correction 'Off' before.

Note: Selecting a new tone, changing the Amp model , copying the Amp model or the EQ settings from a tone to another one will make the EQ correction switch Off.

    • TAP button

This control needs a whole edit buffer transfer from the amp at each action. So, the 'TAP' button is only visible and active when the Flex is connected and in the active selected tone.

    • SWAP & COPY
    • SWAP is the compare button. Hitting it makes the Flextone instantly switch from one tone to the other. The selected tone is shown with the appropriate colour in the central window.
    • COPY Allows copying settings from one tone to the other.

You can change the Source / Destination ( the arrow will reflect the setting).
Then select what must be copied by checking the needed boxes.

    • SELECTING & SAVING TONES

You can select tones with the 'Select' buttons. This allows you to load the Edit Buffer too.

    • 'WRITE' button
Use this button to save the selected tone ( green or orange ) in a memory location.
The tone name can be changed in each tone name window, NOT in the 'Selected' one.
    • 'SAVE as Amp Def' button
Use it for replacing your Amp def settings with the new ones ( for the selected Amp in the tone ).
This works as you would push for 5 s the Amps/Cabs knob on the Flex control panel.
    • 'NEW' button
Use this button to create a new tone from scratch.
The tone will be created with the Amp default settings defined in the 'Preferences' Menu, with 'New1' or 'New2' name..

    • ORGANIZE TONES

This new v3.0 feature allows a general reorganization of tones in the memory locations by Drag & Drop ( more powerful than a single swap one )
The reorganization is NOT instant. It is done after leaving the reorganization window, if you press the 'Do it !!' button.
So, you can be confident and make tries and fails. All your tones stay organized as they were as long as you don't willingly click on the 'Do it !!' button.

    • Export Tones, Names & Settings.

You can export the tones and settings list in a .txt file ( 'Flex_tones.txt') with the dedicated button. This file is written in the program location folder.

The file can be saved for a Text editor use ( "Raw text") or for beeing imported in a Spreadsheet or a Database ( "Delimited"). The field delimiter is the 'Tab' character.

Note : In the 'Pre' section, Threshold's and Wah pos can't be selected if the related 'state' is not selected.
In the 'Post' section, Delay Feedback, Mod Param 2 and Extra params can't be selected if Mix or Time/speed are not selected.
(Test the check boxes behaviour )
Vol min and Comp gain will be shown or not according to the Flex firmware version. (The picture above is for v 1.1 )

All numeric values are displayed in %, except thresholds ( dB), Gate decay & Delay time (ms), Mod speed (Hz), and Tap tempo (BPM). The export is fully parameterable

    • SAVE and RESTORE Single Tones or Bundles

      1) Single tones ( .twt extension files )

      a)
'Edit' button or 'Edit tone' File Menu items: Loads a tone file in the current active tone ( Selected)
b)'Save selected' File Menu item: Saves the current active tone ( Selected) as a file in the default directory with the tone name as default name
      ( can be changed )
      c)'Amp/Files transfers' Menu item
This allows managing the tones in the Flex memory: save or restore tones to/from single files on disk.
Dble click in the Flex tones grid sets the file name in the Edit box.

      d)'Amp/Bundle transfers' Menu item
Same as previous, but from tones stored in a bundle instead of single file ones. You get two grids: The bundle one, and the Flex tones one.You can make all transfers as needed.
Special feature: transfers in Edit buffer ( Tone 1 or tone 2)
You can transfer the actual edited tones in the bundle instead of the Flex patches.
But, more interesting, is to load bundle tones in the Edit buffers: This allows you to test the bundle tones on the fly....

    e) Bundles
    -
Save bundle: Saves all tones and amp defaults in a single file (.twb extension)
    - Load bundle: Restore tones and / or amp defaults in Flex memory ( you can choose either tones, or amp defaults, or both )
    - Manage bundles: Behaviour is identical as the 'Amp/Files tranfers, but with bundle tones instead of Flex ones: You can save a tone from the bundle as a single file, or load a single file tone in the bundle.

    • EXPORT SETTINGS

The behaviour is identical at the Amp settings one.

You can export the settings of a single tone file, or select the tones or amp defaults within a bundle file.

    • TUNER

Just click on the arrows to set the new A reference.
Note you must wait for at least 5 or 6 seconds before switching the Flex Off if you want your modifications to be memorized.

Software - PODscope V 1.0 Beta for POD xt... 01-11-2003

    Software gecreerd door GM Arts

    gmarts@chariot.net.au

PodScope V1.0 Beta by GM Arts

    Underneath a software overview

Nearly 10 years ago I wrote an application to allow Roland GP-100 users to view their settings in a simple text display.   Now I've gone and done it all again, this time for PODxt users.   PodScope is a Windows application that allows you to view your PODxt settings as text, print them, add notes, and share them with other users.

    Here's a screenshot ...

    Installation

    • Read the disclaimer at the bottom of this page first
    • Download it
    • Extract all files in the zip to any directory and then run setup.exe
    • When completed, you can safely delete the installation files

    How To Use

Use PodScope to get your settings via MIDI , or open a PODxt System Exclusive file (plenty of these on the net ;-).   You can request and view any of the PODxt settings: current patch, a nominated patch, all channels, amp setups or FX setups.

Use the dropdown list to select different patches, if you've loaded more than one.

Click the Notes button to add notes to a patch (they're listed at the bottom of the view area)

Save to save your settings & notes as text - there are 2 file type options:
    (1) Plain Text is probably best for copying into emails and user forums
    (2) Rich Text is best for viewing later in a word processor

Click Print to print your settings and notes (did I mention it's intuitive?)

Click Options to customise your display options

    The Definition File

    • I've tried to keep the application as generic as possible, so it uses a definition file (PodScope.def) to load model names, describe how sysex data is interpreted, show how values are presented, etc.   This will also allow easy upgrades as POD firmware is improved (post EQ maybe, hint hint ;-), and also other languages can be supported to a reasonable extent.

    System Requirements

    Windows 95 and above only

PODxt only (but if someone would like to buy me a Vetta ... ;-)

The supplied definition file supports PODxt version 1.04, although it will work with older versions, showing the version 1.04 model names (changing Rectifier to Threadplate is the only one I'm aware of).

    Testing & Plans

This is version 1.0 Beta, so at this early stage, I'm interested mainly in removing any bugs you may find.

Please email me with the word "PodScope" in the subject. I expect to release version 1.0 soon, with no known bugs, and at least with its current functionality.

I don't plan to develop this into a graphical editor or librarian.

I am considering other features such as saving settings back into your POD over MIDI, and also a CSV file format so users can export text settings into a database.

    Download PODScope V1.0 Beta

The first download needs to include many support files (some of which you probably already have on your PC anyway).   Updates will be *much* smaller.

    Software - Patchmanager V 1.10 for Duoverb... 20-09-2003

Patchmanager V1.10 by Peter van Vegchel

********* Now also supporting the DUOVERB amplifier ********

If you are using the LINE 6 flextone III or duoverb amplifier you can use the Patchmanager for arranging and editing your favorite patches. You can edit all controllers, even the one's who are not directly accessible from the amplifier (like the reverb type's).

Editing is possible by adjusting the different knobs on the patchmanager or by turning the knobs on your amplifier.
