Free or not... 8-12-04

The growth of Vettaville users is becoming bigger and every month I exeed last months record, giving me more bills to pay if I don't try to get it within a certain limit. As always everyone is free to donate to Vettaville, but things that are free don't seem to have people think about costs for downloadtraffic.

Vettaville is a personal website without any form of sponsering, I'm sorry to say that the free donation thing (the support Vettaville button above) isn't working (and it's been there for half a year now).

In the months that Vettaville.nl is online I already signed up to three diffrent packages of downloadtraffic (everytime bigger) and got an extra domain with xtra downloadtraffic. This all seems to work for some time (normally 3-4 months) before it's to small again. At this rate it would probably be good to have a server placed just for Vettaville so the next year I wouldn't have to worry constantly about the traffic but this would be costs also.

This being said this gives me (as far as I can see now:) some alternatives

1. to stop Vettaville.nl
2. to find sponsers (but this will lose indepence I guess, since nothing is for free)
3. have adds put up
4. have donations coming in
5. to have memberships (that would involve money of course) to Vettaville and only members can see / read / download

From my point of view option 4 would be the best, since nothing really has to change, but as always everyone is free to do what they see appropriate. If, by the end of the year donations failed to reach Vettaville I have to seek other ways. Just to be complete, all money I would recieve will only be used for the Vettaville purposes.

On the other hand it's simple math, if the people visiting Vettaville would donate 2 to 5 euros / dollars I could do marvelous things for you all. Provided that Line 6 is as nice as ever to Vettaville. I must stress that you are not forced to do anything, I just wanna share the problem / choises I face at this stage.

Thank you for having interest in Vettaville and it's purpose on the web, for those want to help out...

Independence and donations 01-05-04

Yesterday Vettaville.nl has reached a (small) first milestone. Another one will be reached in a few days. This all thanks to you. With you I mean the visitors of Vettaville.nl. Thanks the original idea of Nathan Shane (creator of Vettaville.com), Vettaville.nl was created when I asked permission to do the same for the Dutch people with the initial intend just to translate the pages. Since the day vettaville.nl was registered it began to develop in regards to a small number of visitors.

Now some 9 months later I think it's fair to say that it has grown in size, visitors and download-numbers and -traffic. This is good and I thank you all that come here and will continue to welcome you. That what stated as personal webpage (and it still is) has grown to be beakon of information on Line 6 related gear en news on a daily basis.

The flipside of this growth is that your appetite for info is exeeding my budget. I know every hobby has it's costs but in these 9 months I subsribed to three different packages to handle the ('till now) constantly growing demand of datatraffic and everytime I'm exceeding it and now are getting fined for it. This is oke (for now), because I'm the one that's giving the oppertunity and it's rewarding to see that the numbers are increasing rapidly. I see it as the reward of the performance I supply...

I'm guessing here; but one of the cornerstones of the growth is the independance that Vettaville.nl has and values. With the current growth, and prices of datatraffic, travelingcosts for meetings, software, etc.. I can no longer supply the same service with ever growing demand of info and will be forced to cut back on behalf of the situation. I'm just trying to figure out a way to have a solution that works best for all without loosing independence.

Maybe a way of doing this is to have an account opened were visitors can donate money for the sole benefit of Vettaville.nl. If you would choose to do so, and you are not forced in any way just a kind request, I can't give you anything in return other than a thank you email or if we should meet an personal handshake, of course the same service provided here at Vettaville.n as you've grown to value. If you choose to donate, you state that you value the services of Vettaville.nl and wish it a good future for all the visitors.

For the European visitors I have a solution (see bank account info at the bottom of the item) for the other parts of the world you can use the pay pal button on the right top of the screen of every page.

In Europe the banks will not charge money (as a general agreement) between the European countries (but check to be sure, before you donate) so no additional charges of any kind. Underneath Bank account info:

in name of: J.J.M. Ligtenberg* accountnr.: IBAN nr. NL69 RABO 0112287662

please fill in: donation to Vettaville.nl and your emailadress

* since this is a personal website I can't change the name to Vettaville.nl but it has to be my personal name.

Thank you for reading and maybe even donating, if so thank you on behalf of the Vettaville.nl visitors and myself. Hans Ligtenberg webmaster
