LINE 6 AND BOGNER FUSE MODELLING FLEXIBILITY WITH TUBE AMP PEFORMANCE: INTRODUCING SPIDER VALVE

Calabasas, CA - Line 6, Inc., creators of the award-winning POD®, Spider™ III, Variax® and Vetta™ series of modelling devices, guitars and amps, are very pleased to announce their new line of Spider Valve™ tube-based amplifiers, the result of their breakthrough collaboration with tube amp titan Reinhold Bogner.

Just as Line 6 revolutionised the world of amps through their pioneering amp and effect technology, they now expand and explode the possibilities of tube amp performance by applying that same tonal range and superior fidelity to Bogner’s all-tube power amp design, audiophile component selection and stellar voicing.

Let there be no mistake: Spider Valve is not one of those so-called “hybrid” amps that talk “tube” but don’t deliver the guts or glory onstage. The performance, response and feel delivered by the matched Spider Valve 6L6 power tubes, 12AX7 preamp tubes and premium Celestion® Vintage 30 speakers - combined with twelve Line 6 amp models and seven SmartControl effects - displays all the gorgeous cascading distortion and enriched harmonics that tube enthusiasts demand, brilliantly allied with the state-of-the-art Line 6 modelling mojo essential to today’s working players.

You wouldn’t expect anything less from a partnership between Line 6 and Reinhold Bogner, the legendary German amp guru whose coveted all-tube Bogner combos and heads are holy grails for legions of discerning pros. In deep collaboration with Line 6, Bogner applied his mastery and craftsmanship to virtually every aspect of the Spider Valve design and construction, from mapping the signal path and voicing the speakers right down to specifying bolts and washers.

“Professional guitarists have asked us for an amp that combines the sonic versatility of Line 6 modelling with the power and performance that a well-crafted tube amp delivers on stage,” says Marcus Ryle, Line 6 Cofounder and Senior VP of Research and Development, “With Reinhold Bogner we found the ideal design partner to create this ‘best of both worlds’. We are truly honoured by his collaboration, craftsmanship and what we have been able to achieve together with Spider Valve.”

Spider Valve amps will be available in three versions. The Spider 112 pairs a 40W Class AB tube amp with two 12AX7 preamp tubes, two 6L6 power tubes and a single 12” Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. The Spider Valve 212 features the same power amp and tube array as the 112, but with two Celestion Vintage 30s. The Spider Valve HD-100 packs two 12AX7 preamp tubes, four 6L6 power tubes and 100 watts into a stylish head with matching 4x12 cabinets, loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s. Each model features 12 channels of modelling, as well as modulation, delay and reverb effects, programmable presets, on-board tuner, tap-tempo, noise gate and many other extra features.

Spider Valve - All Tubes - Signal Flow... 31-08-07

Spider Valve

Spider Valve – This is a Real Tube Amp
The signal flow of the Spider Valve 112 and 212:

Spider Valve Signalflow - Vettaville.nl

As you can see, Spider Valve consists of a complete Class AB tube amplifier fed by a digital front end, which houses all the magic of our amp and effect models. Make no mistake; these are not “marketing tubes”. This is a real tube amp. 12AX7 pre-amp tubes, which are always working to provide the harmonic richness and compression of a great vintage tube amp, drive the phase splitter and 5881 power amp complement.
Spider Valve truly offers the “best of both worlds” — affording you a tremendous range of Line 6 tone and effects with the vibe and stage-proven performance of a world class tube amp.

Spider Valve

We've purchased our copy of a Guitar Magazine and behold, there's info on Rheinhold.. Inside there's an interview with Darrell Smith and Steve de Furia from Line 6 talking about the new Spider Valve series and the cooperation with Rheinhold Bogner. Based on the info..

  • Development took more then a year
  • Line 6 is trying to bring their modeling technology to Valve amps
  • Basis is Spider III but all models are new
  • Line 6 is being avasive on what amps they specifically modeled for Spider Valve..
  • Spider Valve's frontend is completly Line 6 up to the point in the circuit where there are dual cascading preamp valves, and from there on it's all valve..
  • Line 6 says: "It's like having a 12 channel valve amp but with fewer valves."

Spider Valve - First Impressions of Beta model... 13-09-07

Spider Valve

Yesterday a music store had a demo of a beta model version of the new Spider Valve amp in their store. Thanks to Robert Williams we've got some extra pictures that he took from his cellphone and here's his first impression.. Please note this is his personal impression..

"First impression is that a lot of the digital hash I hear in most Line 6 products is not there and the dynamics that we all want out of a tube amp are within reach. You can actually plug into the return on the power amp and get a really useful tone... Looks like casters are standard. V30 is standard, Bogner designed the cab.

Effects... seem to shift from pre to post depending on the model. I heard Chorus, Delay and Verb, don't know which models. There's a cool effects defeat on power up, you do however have to "wake up" tone controls when you go from model to model. Your presets automatically reset all controls.

Twelve models, I didn't get a chance to go through the manual and see all but there are the usual suspects. One standout was a blues model with shades of JTM, Supro and Bassman. Combos are expected to ship end of the month, head and 4x12 in November.

Got a chance to play it and it's got some mojo. Nice feel, not too much sag, LOTS of volume. Should keep up with most drummers. The effects are somewhat limited but I have to remember it's a Spider not a POD or Vetta. I don't know the level settings on the FX loop but I'd likely run something to supplement. And as nice as the V30 is, it's not for me and I'll change it out immediately. (Yes I'm buying one):-)"

Spider Valve - MP3 clip - Models Impressions... 17-10-07

Spider Valve

There have a lot of requests for clips of the Spider Valve amp. And we are lucky that Ed Degenaro a professional player has made a quick clip that shows how versatile this amp is. We hosted that yesterday. As a result there have been requests to hear the same mp3 withour reverb added. Well here it is.

He's just spinning through the amp models while riffing and meanwhile quickly making this clip of the Spider Valve. All effects are bypassed (no reverb or eq in the the recording software, just the amp). He cycled around all the models left the eq alone. He dialed in the presence knob a bit higher then he'd use at a normal setting.. Guitar was a Vigier BBF model, recorded with a 609 microphone.

Thanks go out once again to Ed DeGenaro for granting Vettaville.nl the use of the clip. You can find his website here
