A Passionate environment

Darrell: One of the great things about working at Line 6 is that I'm in an environment of musicians. Many of us came from backgrounds as players, record producers - living the dream and then waking up one morning with families and responsibilities…

We bring our passion for gear, for music and tone. We’ve got the kind of people who line up to play every brilliant amp that comes though our doors. It's really something to see our people passionate about new products – like when the PODxt Live was released. Internally people line up to get on the Beta Test Team, to get in there, to kind of be the first to touch or work with something new. To work at the issues...

We see Beta testing as an opportunity to maybe find and work out difficulties that maybe our customers will have at a later date. So we get very passionate about eliminating as many problems for our customer base or friends as possible.

Another aspect that makes Line 6 unique is our drive to offer great value. You know with the PODxt for a couple hundred euros you get $ 75,000 worth of guitar amps in there. In a recording situation we like to think of PODxt as all the equipment you’d need on the “other side of the glass”. Now you sit in the producers chair, plug your guitar in your POD and know that we’ll take care of getting all the technical stuff together so that you’ll have great guitar tone going to tape.

Finally we are mandated to innovate, and a part of innovating is inventing. Innovation is the process of commercializing an invention. And that's what Vetta was all about - it was an idea to take the quality of our modeling up to the same level as the amps and gear we love and appreciate. And then to make that available to friends and musicians at a price they can afford. Ultimately that's why we’re working in the guitar space, and why we're constantly developing new plug-in's, recording based products, amps or other exiting things to come...

The modeling proces

Darrell: I am privileged to be able to work directly with our sound design crew which is lead by Jeff Slingluff. Jeff spends the most time intimately getting to know every amp, every guitar, every effect that we model. I can tell you a little bit about our modeling process. I'm sure you're quite curious...

Modeling an amplifier or guitar takes about a week of our time and the basic process is this: We take an amp, or whatever it is that we're modeling and we break it down into the major components of what's going on.

Other companies might use the terminology of component modeling. In general component modeling is based on studying a schematic, then recreating the resistors, capacitors and gain stages in the circuit in a special software that then produces the tone.
