Vetta V2.50 - Variax and Workbench... 26-05-06

With the previous (2.03) Vetta software, the Vetta was only aware of, and you could only recall, guitars from the factory settings, so your alternate tuned hybrid ES-175 with sitar pickups can't be stored as part of a Vetta patch. The behavior you'll see is this: store a modified guitar at Spank-5, for example. If you had a Vetta patch that uses Spank-5, what would come up is the original factory guitar, not your custom model. Until Vetta is updated to V 2.50, it won't know anything about user memory on the Variax.

The good side of this (and this applies to XT Live owners as well) is that you actually have 110 guitars available when you're connected via the VDI, the 50 factory settings, 10 in the custom banks, and 50 user settings that get stored in what would have been the factory slots. You can specify which of those each patch on the Vetta or XT Live will bring up. This is as close as I've ever gotten to having my cake and eating it, too.

With Vetta V 2.50 (and PODxt Live) the situation is like this..

1. The factory banks are there purely for a reset function but are asignable via Line 6 edit to a Vetta II patch.

2. The user banks are permanently allocated to the location accessable by the Variax's controls or the Vetta's control buttons.

3. If I asign a new patch to say Lester 1, the only way to get access to the original Lester 1 patch (factory) is by having pre-programmed it into a Vetta II patch via Line 6 edit yes? I can't access it via controls on the Variax or Vetta II?

4. If I have use a different Variax, the patch in the Vetta II would reference the memory slot and the sound would be whatever is in that location. So for continuity the two Variaxes should have identicle patches stored yes?

Workbench versions... 21-04-05

The Variax Workbench package has left the building at Line 6. It'll take some days to get it to the retailers. Variax Workbench will work with Variax 300, 500, 600 and 700 electrics.

Version 1.1 is the version that supports XT Live and Vetta II or upgraded Vettas with VDI cards. If you decide that you absolutely have to try using 1.0 with an XT Live, you may encounter bugs with the Workbench software or PODxt Live drivers that may affect your guitar's behavior.

Workbench Improved software models for Variax... 21-04-05

In the current package for Workbench, there is a CD with the Installer for PC and Mac, L6 Monkey and v1.0 software. Of course there is the hardware and a USB cable and an RJ-45 cable that has the reinforced plug cover at one end.

As far as the update to the Variax- It loads the new models into the guitar as used in the Workbench. Line 6 improved the acoustic models quite a bit. The electric models sound better as a result of further refinement. V 3.0.

Vettaville can't show you the actual package, but here's a picture of what might be in there. Please note this is not a photo from Line 6 and does not represent the actual package, just a possible package contents.

Vettaville added some screenshots of the new Workbench software beneath... So stay tuned...

Variax Workbench Updated Variax and Vetta... 27-04-05

In an effort to foster understanding and reduce confusion, here's some information about what happens if you take a Variax that's been updated to 3.x and plug it into the VDI of a Vetta that's at 2.03.

1. It will play fine. You just can't edit the guitar or update the firmware through the Vetta/VDI.

2. Patch recall of Variax models will behave strangely. A Variax that's been updated to 3.x has, essentially, factory and user banks. You can't store things over the factory bank, since it has to be there so you can restore to original status with the 'Sync' button.

With current (2.03) Vetta software, the Vetta is only aware of, and can only recall, guitars from the factory settings, so your alternate tuned hybrid ES-175 with sitar pickups can't be stored as part of a Vetta patch. The behavior you'll see is this: store a modified guitar at Spank-5, for example. If you have a Vetta patch that uses Spank-5, what will come up is the original factory guitar, not your custom model.
